The Pequop Mountains intersect with I-80 approximately 18 miles east of Wells, Nevada. Over the last eight years, 165 wildlife-vehicle collisions (WVCs) have been formally reported in this area; most of which were deer-vehicle collisions (NDOT Animal Hit Database). These reports documented more than 50 incidents resulting in property damage, two rollovers, and 12 human injuries. NDOT has estimated only 20-30% of WVCs are reported in rural areas throughout Nevada, which would equate to 60-80 deer-vehicle collisions on an annual basis through the Pequop Mountains. The recommended improvements to improve the safety of this busy interstate include two wildlife overpasses, modifications of two existing underpasses, and erecting approximately 10 miles of exclusionary fencing. This timelapse documents the construction of the wildlife overpasses.
